Some of our team members are less outgoing than others, but that doesn’t stop them from building large professional networks. These are some Absolute Consulting Group networking guidelines for our more introverted executives:
• Play to Your Strengths: Introverts are famous for not liking crowds, but they’re often excellent conversation partners when they’re in smaller groups. Rather than conference halls, we suggest that our reserved associates try smaller venues, such as breakfast events.
• Let Them Come to You: Sometimes, the right people will show up on our doorsteps – but only if we invite them. Some of us are quite good at hosting small networking events of our own, which allows us to control the guest lists and the venues.
• Focus on Quality Connections: This is a solid Absolute Consulting Group tip for anyone, but introverts might appreciate it most. Rather than a race to meet as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time, networking works best when getting to know two or three new people really well (and then following up with them).
• Master Social Media: Platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter are designed to allow people to learn about each other. Using these, we learn about professionals we’d like to meet, and develop one or two questions we’d like to ask them. This makes the actual process of going somewhere and engaging in conversation much easier.
