The Absolute Consulting Group reading list continues to grow as great new books come to our attention, while at the same time some classic titles seem more relevant than ever. These are a few of our most endorsed reads:
” “The Happiness Advantage: How a Positive Brain Fuels Success in Work and Life,” by Shawn Achor: Drawing from work in the field of positive psychology, Achor turns a bit of conventional wisdom upside down. While many of us were taught to believe that hard work and success would bring happiness, the truth is that being happy first is the secret to finding success.
” “Watership Down,” by Richard Adams: A literary classic, this book tells the story of a displaced rabbit warren and their fight for survival. While not about business directly, there are certainly lessons to be learned from this book – especially if one compares the different leadership styles used by the rabbits.
” “The Zen of Listening: Mindful Communication in the Age of Distraction,” by Rebecca Z. Shafir: Social media, email, television, and more constantly fight for our attention. This is not news. What caught many of us by surprise around the Absolute Consulting Group office was that the casualty of this battle for focus is listening. When we’re so focused on tuning things out all the time, we sometimes forget how to tune in.
We’ve found these titles to be very helpful to us on our career journeys. For other tips that will help you get ahead, follow Absolute Consulting Group on Twitter.
